The Mbugwe are a population of Tanzania whose number has shrunk over the centuries, nowadays only 40,000 survive and live at the base of the Great Rift Valley slope, in flat-roofed villages, to withstand the strong winds of the area.

The population of the Mbugwe still follows the precepts of ancestral religion and uses numerous plants for traditional medicine.

Their economy is based on agriculture, they grow many products; women are able to hook natural fibers to get containers and vases.
