Finally the day we have been waiting for months has arrived! Today we leave!

Last night we finished to pack our suitcases, those of this trip were particularly demanding because, in addition to clothing, accessories, cameras, lenses, binoculars and books, we had to buy a series of objects for our car that is waiting for us in Johannesburg: Dr. Livingstone!

We have four suitcases to send, we also have two camera backpacks and two trolleys as hand baggage, thank goodness we fly in business class with Ethiopian Airlines otherwise god knows how we would have managed.

This journey began a long time ago, when, maps, Tracks4Africa and Google Maps in hand, we started to study the itinerary and the various stages.

The study and planning are one of the most important parts of a trip because you have to select well the things to see, the places of interest, the roads, the travel times, etc. and then start sketching a route.

Waste tire

Recycling projects that know how to turn waste into something new, useful and artistic are always a success.

One of the plagues afflicting the African continent, and the entire planet, is represented by the cars used tires that have become a huge problem in terms of waste management and recycling, mainly due to the large amount of pieces that are produced, used and thrown away every year and also for the materials used in their production.

In more and more areas of the world the possibility of access to a constant reserve of drinking water is becoming a very delicate problem.

Suffice it to say that the root cause of health problems in Ethiopia is the spread of diseases perpetuated by the lack of clean water and sanitation systems.

Often contaminated with human and animal waste, water quality is severely compromised.

The impact of contaminated water on community health is shocking; every year, many children die of diarrhea and other diseases, such as malnutrition, pneumonia and malaria.

The BigGaps project aims to fill information gaps on the biodiversity of the Karoo area, South Africa, in order to better understand the territory and consequently make decisions about the future of this area.

The project, supported by a consortium of 20 institutions, started in 2016 and will last for 3 years, during which extensive field surveys have been carried out, as well as an enormous work of digitizing all paper documents.

Leopards are among the most beautiful, ruthless and fascinating animals that can be encountered during a safari, they are elusive creatures and are undoubtedly the kings of the ambushes.

These beautiful dappled felines are difficult to spot, they love to rest and spend most of the time away from the sun on comfortable tree branches or hidden in the bush.

Unfortunately, these predators are at risk and the population of leopards has declined considerably in recent decades.

After a good twenty years of war between the two nations, an agreement was signed on July 8, 2018 that effectively ended the conflict and reopened diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

After the independence of Eritrea from Ethiopia in 1993 the relations between the two states remained good for a few years, but later, in 1998, a bloody war began for territorial disputes, where over 80,000 people lost their lives and thousands of families were, in fact, separated.

These days it was released the documentary that tells the expeditions, and the related discoveries, in what was called the "Google forest".

Few people know, or remember, that one of the last great naturalistic discoveries was made thanks to the satellite technology used by Google Earth, that made it possible to identify, for the first time, a pristine forest in Mozambique.

Everybody knows that the flip-flops are comfortable, lightweight accessories that represent summer, heat, freedom and holidays, but few know the dark face of the coin or, in this case, of the flip-flops.
