During our trip to South Africa and Swaziland we decided to take our favorite wines with us; if on the one hand South Africa is a wine producer on the other we have preferred to have with us some Italian wines, to take a piece of home with us.

We brought with us the wines of Casa Montini, a winery that, for five generations, has been producing and vinifing grapes in the Oltrepò Pavese, following the criteria of Certified Organic Agriculture, respecting the environment and health.

Casa Montini is a family business, the family has origins in Brescia, and more precisely they come from Val Sabbia, but they moved to Oltrepò Pavese, and more precisely to Santa Giuletta, back in 1810, where they began to cultivate quality vines.

Passion and experience have been handed down from generation to generation and, today as in the past, all the love for their land can be found in their wines.

Nowadays Casa Montini produces grapes on 30 hectares of property and excellent white and red wines.

The love for their land, the respect for the environment and nature have been transformed, over the years, into a philosophy of life and an approach that permeates all the activities of the family business; this translates into the adoption of production processes and the use of products that do not damage the environment and that offer the final consumer genuine wines that do not contain chemical substances.

Reducing the impact on the environment and respecting its natural cycles also translates into respect for animals.

The philosophy of Casa Montini is very much in line with what is the commitment to the environment that we also support; it is for this fact, as well as for the remarkable quality of their wines, that we decided to tie ourselves to them and take their wines with us.

We took three different wines.

Croatina Vivace IGP “Vigna dei Frati” by Casa Montini

The first wine is the Croatina Vivace IGP "Vigna dei Frati", this wine is produced with a Croatina grapes, this vine is native of the Oltrepò Pavese and Piacentino region.

It is a red wine with a ruby red color and violet reflections. It has an intense and persistent aroma, with fruity morello cherries cadence.

It goes perfectly with cured meats and meats, and we brought it because we want to combine it with biltong, the dried beef or venison meat that is found everywhere in South Africa, and also with the braai, the South African barbeque.

Chardonnay Vivace IGP “Vigna Fontanile” by Casa Montini

The second wine is a white wine, the Chardonnay Vivace IGP "Vigna Fontanile", produced with Chardonnay grapes.

The color is straw yellow and bright, it has an intense aroma with fruity and floral hints that leave room for a delicate herbaceous, it has a rich, fruity, balanced and persistent taste.

It is a wine that goes well with white meats, risottos with vegetables and fried vegetables and fish; we decided to take it with us because we want to taste it watching an African sunset at the end of a safari day.

Riesling

The third wine is again a white wine, the Riesling Vivace PGI "Vigna Val Rosa", produced with Riesling Italico grapes; the color is straw-yellow with green hues, the bouquet is elegant, intense with fragrance of flowers, apple and musk memories.

It combines with delicate first courses, vegetables and fish; we will drink it as an aperitif, alone or we will use it to make an excellent Spritz.

Cheers!!!
