Recycling projects that know how to turn waste into something new, useful and artistic are always a success.

One of the plagues afflicting the African continent, and the entire planet, is represented by the cars used tires that have become a huge problem in terms of waste management and recycling, mainly due to the large amount of pieces that are produced, used and thrown away every year and also for the materials used in their production.

The used tires are thrown into landfills but, being highly resistant do not decompose and are not biodegradable, they are very bulky compared to other waste and, for this reason, they are often burned, with the bad result of releasing harmful gases into the atmosphere.

The problem has gigantic proportions, just think that, only in South Africa, more than 3,000 tires are changed every day!

Fortunately, in many African countries, from Nigeria to Kenya, from South Africa to Namibia, numerous and ingenious artists have been born who recycle old tires, transforming them into new and useful objects, such as chairs, sofas, swings, accessories and other works of art.

The tires are collected from landfills or common areas where they are often abandoned and are first washed and degreased and subsequently become the raw material from which to create new objects.

Whether they are simple tables, which are made by overlapping different colored tires or elaborate art forms, the result is guaranteed; the temptation to try a chair made from old wheels is too strong for anyone and often you are surprised how comfortable they are.

Numerous lodges use these ecological furniture to furnish outdoor areas, the materials ensure a good resistance over time as well as representing a commitment to the environment, finally they always have an incredible charm.

Some companies, such as Retyre Furniture in South Africa, have raised the concept of tire recycling, creating superb armchairs and other furnishing elements, a true form of ecological art.

The next time you change tires, do not throw them away and give vent to your creativity, you will help the planet to survive.
