Our Lufthansa flight landed in Nairobi at 9:20 pm on time, being in transit through Kenya we do not need any visa, so we quickly pass the checks and go to collect our suitcases that have arrived intact, thankfully.

Now that we are here we would like to stop for a few days, the climate of Nairobi is spectacular, an eternal spring; even the parks of Kenya are very beautiful but we will return another time, now our journey must continue to Tanzania.

We leave Terminal 1E, where the Intercontinental flights of European and Arabian companies usually land, and we head to Terminal 1A, from where the Kenyan flag carrier, Kenya Airways, flies.

Terminals 1A and 1E are the newest part of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, or JKIA; we check the baggage, both those we send and those we carry on board, before entering the terminal, then we check in and after we go to the passport control and then go upstairs.

At this airport the hand luggage checks are made directly at the gate, it is not very convenient since, after the checks, there is only the waiting room, there are no bathrooms or a place to buy water or anything else to bring on board.

Our gate is no. 5, basically we have to walk the entire airport, that has a circular shape, we go back practically where we landed with Lufthansa, okay let's put it so: taking a short walk after so many hours of flight is good for circulation. :-)

We pass the controls at the gate and then wait for the boarding, fortunately they are punctual, the flight is in fact operated by the Tanzanian airline, Precision Air, that often is "precise" only for the name. :-)

The flight to Kilimanjaro is short, it's only 40 minutes, but they still manage to serve us something to drink and biscuits; what a pity that it is dark, otherwise we could have seen the Kilimanjaro in its majesty, we will try again on our way back, as we will fly during the day.

Finally we land at the Kilimanjaro International airport, or KIA, first we do the entry visa, that can also be done at the Tanzanian consulate in Italy; for us Italians it costs 50 $.

Then immigration and we go to collect the suitcases, we are a bit tired, we are awake since 4.00 this morning, but as soon as we leave the airport and feel the warm breeze and the scent that is in the air, we feel at home and we do not even feel tired anymore.

Our guide and our driver Safe and Fredrick came to pick us up; they will be our traveling companions, who will lead us to discover the wonders of this spectacular country that is Tanzania.
