The Great Zimbabwe is an important archaeological site of Zimbabwe, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it preserves the remains of what was the most important political and economic center of the region, the ancient capital of an incredibly vast and powerful empire, the Empire of Mutapa or Monomotapa.

The remains testify how the region and the city reached a high level of construction capacity, it is still unclear what ethnicity has been able to build these constructions, antecedent to the Mutapa Empire, that still today are challenging time and weather.

The statue depicting a bird that is now on the national flag was found at the Great Zimbabwe.
