The Bassar, or Bassari, are an ethnic group living in North East Togo; a population that has been handing down ancient traditions for centuries and who still practices the animist religion.

The homonymous town of Bassar was originally a center for the production of iron, today it is known as the capital of the yam, of Togo.

The Bassar have a king, a tradition handed down by many generations; the king has at his disposal "Le Palais Royal", that is the Royal Palace of Bassar.
