The Okavango River, instead of leading into the ocean, like most African rivers, flows into a plain in central Botswana, creating a wonderful place, consisting of swamps, canyons, sandy isles, big islands where there is a primeval mopane forest, a patchwork of marshes and water ponds, alluvial planes and savannah portions.
Here is a very high concentration of animals, one of the highest in the entire continent, especially during the dry season, when the water-based herbivores gather here, certain to find what they need to survive.
Obviously where there are so many preys, it is possible to meet many predators: lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, cheetahs and wild dogs are ready to take advantage of the situation and gain a meal.
