The Fon are Benin's main ethnic group, in the past their mighty empire was responsible for terrible raids at neighboring populations, the reason being simple: they provided slaves for sale on the coast to European powers.

The kingdom of Dahomey was very powerful and rich, and its capital, Abomey, housed a royal palace of incredibly large dimensions.

The Fon practice the voodoo religion, whose ceremonies are filled with strong emotions and sacredness.
